    aaarg...

So I have access to everything on this computer. I am the administrator and have the passwords, etc... but I just installed a new motherboard and am trying to install the hardware and it won't let me. It says that I don't have enough security priviledges to install stuff on the computer.

When I go to the security settings, I have full control of everything eccept under Creator/Owner, when I click Full Control and click Apply, the checks disappear. What gives.

Because of this I have no internet and can't configure my sound card...

    btw... this is Windows 2000...

anyone know what I can do?

try creating another user with admin priv's and use that profile to install your equipment.

In my opinion, if you have a new motherboard, you would be far better off doing a format and fresh installl.

I really don't want to reinstall everything..pain in the butt... but I may have to do that...

Even if you fix this problem, you will more than likely encounter more in the future if you don't do a format.

I know it's a pain, but it's the best thing to do when you have a new mobo.

this may sound retarded... but how do I do a format?

I try to install XP and of course when the autoplay screen comes on I click "install XP" and it tells me I can't because I'm not the admin.

What am I supposed to do?

Before you do anything, check that all your hardware is compatible with XP using the CD and/or check on the Micro$$oft site.

Download and have available the latest, XP compatible drivers for all your hardware.

To format and install, set your Bios to boot from CD, reboot with the CD in your drive, and just follow the prompts.

When it gives you the choice between NTFS or FAT32, NTFS is the better choice unless you specifically require FAT32.

Once you install Windows, you can then install your updated hardware drivers.
