My computer crashed. Th HD was fine and I made an ext. HD from it. I would now like to locate and import the OE into the new(used) computer. I have done a bunch of searches on it but don't quite understand it all. None of it tells me how to locate it in the ext. HD. Help me please. I didn't have a backup file for my email so I know it is going to take some digging.:cry

How do know the HD is fine? What proof do you have?

" What proof do I have. How do I know if the hard drive is fine"

Lets see. I put it in an external hard drive and hooked it to the new computer and am able to access my files.

I didn't have a backup file of OE so importing it is not as simple as some methods that I have seen posted on google. I need to know how to access dbx Files?

    Hi

If all your after is to extract your emails from the DBX files on your external, this small app will help, cannot find the original link to the free version ( think it went to paid so if you like the app support the creator ), but the attached is the one I saved back in 2003, while not as easy to use as the latest version will do what you want as I imagine you only need to recover these once.

Once run, in the Input section, browse for the location of the DBX files, and in the Output section browse to a folder you wish these recovered emails saved to ( create this folder first ), once you haev recovered the emails, iirc all you have to do is drag and drop them into OE in the mailbox folder of your choice.

Will it allow me to import my accounts or just email?

I have none of my info saved. I am looking for all of my old email stuff.

I also had more than one account. Will I be able to differentiate between them?

OK, I appreciate the program. I believe it will work.

The problem is I don't know where to look on the ext. HD to find the dbx files. I assume that I need to do some digging in the e drive to find the appropriate file to attach to the dbx zip file extraction?

I am trying to do some data recovery for which I have no experience but I believe with some coaching I can do it.

Thanks for the help so far.
