Impossible to delete a file on my desktop - please help

Hello,

I had downloaded the demo for Master of Orion 3 (official, proper dl), installed, played and uninstalled. After this, I still had the demo/setup file sitting on my desktop.

I have been trying to delete this file over past some time and it always says somebody or something is using the file and i can not delete it.

Things I've tried:
- Rebouting the PC
- I have looked in Task Manager and shut down any processes i may have suspected
- Exiting all running programs immediately after restarting

In all cases I failed . The damn file is still sitting there and laughing at me.

Could anyone tell me how I can see which program is using this file so i can somehow shut it down or there is another better way?

you could try to use a program called process explorer. And do a search for the file name. Also, if it was an extractable file sometimes winrar and winzip dont release authority to the file properly. Any make sure you have permissions to delete the file.

 

Try booting into safe mode and then try to delete it.

Also, Hijackthis has a built in "delete file on reboot" tool.

 

Don't know what OS you've got but you could boot to DOS and delete it from there.

 

What error are you getting.
Used by another program or cannot read from source disk or something else?
The used by another program error is the easiest to solve.

Halos program is worth a shot.
