    DON,
    Please elaborate.
When you click on 'object' what happens? Are there file types listed?

FYI I don't have such an option in Adobe Audition.

It is an object in an object-oriented software. An object is simply a collective set of data, usually related. For object-oriented software the data contained in an object has many methods for processing data. There will usually be a create or constructor method, read or accessor method, write or mutator method and a delete or destructor method. The four methods are sometimes referred as CRUD = Create, Read, Update and Delete but that is more used in database technology. The related data and the methods constitute the object and software designed or coded in this fashion are objected oriented.

The four basic methods are by no means the only methods that can be developed for the object and you can also have transform or sumarise methods.

    Thanks, David and Maxwell,

I had received the following definitive reply from an Audio Engineering friend:

CarlosEArellano: Don, the term object is not rare in DAW lingo, I remember Samplitude with its Object Based Editing, Logic Audio and audio objects in the Environment window, Sonar with Object-oriented Editing. Assuming that an object is like an individual element, which can be edited whatever its length or position.

The term may be [used] interchangeably with 'clip', but emphasizing in a bigger possibility of editing and modification, almost to microscopic levels.

Logic's Aux object is an good example of how to create a basic audio object in an environment, and then transformed and expanded to meet multiple functions.

Thanks to everyone who jumped in to help. This site if filled with fabulous, friendly, knowledgeable folks who are willing to share without flames. :-o:major

(It's oft stated that the only stupid question is the one never asked!)
