Since it also Remembrance Day over here, I just wanted place a small memorandum for all Servicemen/women worldwide, past present and future.

Usually this is something I try not to think about, but I figure I owe them at least one day a year.

To those that have, and are acting in the service of nation, and to those that will remain forever young.

    'Duty, Honour, Service'

Special thanks to my old comrades, some that payed the ultimate price, and the scars that remain in mind and body.

    "We Shall remember them..."

If you can, or are inclined to, can I ask you to spend ONE minute in remembrance.

    ..."'Till we meet again..."

No matter your political views or views on wars in general, the exceptionaly brave and unselfish actions of the Heroic men and women who have sacrificed loved ones and themselves for others to have the freedom and lives we now lead, should not, and will not, be forgotten.

    Thank you, Phantom.

    Thank you, Gramps.

    Thank you, all.

    You shall not be forgotten.

    Peace.

    John.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
    In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

Good stuff guys. Today is Veteran's Day here in the U.S., although most offices that celebrate it took yesterday off instead. Here's to all those that put their lives on the line for us over the years.

Re: Remembrance Day:- I felt it was the least I could do. Sometimes we should remember, and learn from the past, if we don’t want our kids to be in the same situation. I look forward to being a Grandparent one day. I don’t want to have to bury any of my kids.

I'm all for serving my nation by all and any means necessary, but far better to avoid getting to that point in the first place.

Well at least the K.I.A. have found peace, I guess. Wether one believes in some form of metaphysical/spiritual afterlife, or just the ultimate 'peace' of total oblivion.

Often wondered why I deserved to live, while other good men were taken. And those that lost their minds, or souls, and became bitter and twisted sociopaths. Most of us just maintain our "stiff upper lip", and carry on regardless.

I was one of the 'lucky' ones. It did not destroy my mind, or my soul, (nearly took my body), but it did perhaps wound me more deeply than I care to acknowledge. A quater of a century later, just when you think it has all gone away, I realise that part of me died in those far away alien lands.

My son is not too many years short of the age I, and many others were, makes ya think.

The final irony is, that the literal battles of those crazy days would pale into insignificance compared to the battles and wounds that were to face me in civilian life. But I know I'm not alone in that, and some battles may be lost, but the 'war' will be one. I'm still grateful each I get up in the morning, for the fact that I CAN get up. Each day of life is a gift, and nothing except death is forever.

Those that are no longer with us will live forever in deed, in spirit, in some cases their decedents, and in memories and hearts of those who knew them.

That is why we will never forget.

Some people think of how people died. I prefer to think of how they lived.

Okay, I'm done for another year. This thread can now fade away for another year, to use an ironic phrase. ;)

Good men will always die when bad men exist, and bad men will exist as long as good men aren't dying. ;)

I salute them all, and I think what they did needs to be taught a lot more in schools and everything, because, as a kid, I know most people in school think they're murderers with problems...

    Hardly what they deserve.
