    Fellow Geekers,
My brother has a dial-up connection and a small business. His business is not big enough to justify in getting a second telephone line so he would like to use his one existing connection for both play and business. But he is a bit worry about missing phone calls when he is on the net. Is there a software out there that would notify him of an incoming phone call when he is on the net?
Any help would be greatly appreciated:)

    Star,
I was hoping for something for FREE. Free is always better on the pockets.

A low cost option your brother might concider would be to invest in a V.92/v44 modem. This would serve a duel purpose for his dial-up connection.

    1) It would provide a "modem on hold" feature. This would allow him to surf the internet through his ISP, & allow him to receive incoming calls.

    2) It provides quicker downloads & internet surfing through the v.44 compression technology.

Note: A) Check with his ISP to insure they support the V.92/v.44 modem.
    B) The user must have "call waiting" on his telephone service.

Both features are a tax write off for a business.

Good Luck, I hope this helps.

    MB,
Thank you for that bit of info. I build my brother's computer for him some time ago but, I forgot what exactly I put in it. I do remember that his modem is by U.S Robotic. I will check and once again thank you for your input. But the way, a little off the subject, but how is the musky fishing up in N.Y? Do you know of any good charters in your neck of the woods? MY father is turning 80 this month and my brothers and I would like to take him out on a fishing charter. Sorry, fellow geeks, I have many interests:)

Hi Harvey, please send me a private message. I'm sure I can hook you up with a good charter. Musky Bob

Man... CallWave is not that expensive. You pay approximately $4 a month for it and it works great. If you can find something for free out there that will answer your calls while you're online, I'll be very surprised. If you do, let me know... I could save $4 a month and ditch CallWave.

If not, just go with CallWave, man... it's not like it's gonna break you. I'm sure you guys can wing $4 a month. :)

CallWave is free. Because call-waiting is necessary, my telephone company charges $2 a month. That's all that CallWave cost me when I had it. I quit when I was having lots of computer problems and was tryijng to narrow it down. Just haven't restarted yet because the phone company will charge me an installation fee if I restart in less than a year.
