Incredimail and cteng files

I’m using Incredimail Build 5683265 under xp-sp2. I noticed recently that this software generates a pile of cteng DAT files in my TEMP folder which cannot be destroyed, even when Incredimail is inactive. You either have to “kill” the files or delete them in safe mode. Anyway they come back whenever you re-use the software.

There's a great deal of bad feedback about Incredimail over the Web. Are they using our pc’s as zombies? Are we better off dropping the software?

I don't know of any real malware issues with Incredimail. It is just one of those programs that some people love and some hate. ;)

The only concern I have is that those cteng files, which are "temporary", are not destroyable by normal methods, even when Incredimail is totally out of the picture. How come this is the case since they are regenerated when you relaunch Incredimail, although you got rid of them using strong-arm techniques?

I noticed that, using the same router, and trying to launch my VOIP program, it would hang "indefinitely" in some cases although I had no activity on the Web. When I launched the same program on another machine which uses the same router, the VOIP program would launch immediately.

If you still have Incredimail installed, something from it is probably loading when you boot your PC normally an it recreates the files. If you don't like this then uninstall Incredimail.

I'm unsure why you are mentioning this here since it has nothing to do with the topic of your thread and it also does not sound like malware. If you wish to check your PC for malware anyway, then you can follow the below instructions.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
