Infected by Sality.AA - removal tool?

Hey there,

Got a p.c with the Sality.aa virus, its apparently a polymorphic type...grrr.

Can some one verify a removal tool / app for this that doesnt damage the exisiting files.

There a no guarantees that any removal tool can remove all of this. Nor are there guarantees that it can be removed safely. In most cases, the only suggested thing to do is reinstall since a PC could become quite unreliable if you don't. The choice is yours. If you wish to try a tool, then search for them an give them a run but you best backup personal data first and don't backup anything that is a executable.

Found a removal tool for the sality issue from AVG, was just a sality removal only didnt take too long.

Concur with your advice on the reinstall and the .exe files.

How is the PC running after using the tool?

Have you run a full scan of your whole hard disk ( all partitions ) using an antivirus program afterwards?

Hey there Chaslang,

Everything seems to be fine, ran another scan using microsoft security essentials updated etc... didnt find any trace of it. Although not sure how good the MS Security Essentials is at detecting this polymorphic malware...? Hadn't used this app before downloaded it and used it on advice from another geek...My boss.

User reports no issues, so untill further notice tag this as resolved.
