Thanks for the help I've found on the forum however I still have a problem.

I've done all the instructions in "Read and Run Me First" and still see the same symptoms - slow startup and Bitdefender online scan still reports infection by Deepscan Generic Malware SVWk!.D0AA7C60

Attached scan logs plus the rest follow in 2nd posting

    Thanks
    Liz

You are going to be slow until you double your RAM:
    Total Physical Memory 512.00 MB
    Available Physical Memory 133.55 MB

I also suggest that you install a start up manager.
    Startup Manager

    Startup_CPL

Your logs are clean. You need to tell we exactly what is being reported. Full path of the file.

    Please take ComboFix out of the folder on your desktop and put it directly on your desktop, not here;
    c:\documents and settings\Liz\Desktop\slow pc\ComboFix.exe

Thanks for the reply and suggestions.
    Will check on upgrading RAM.

    have Downloaded Startup Manager.

Oops sorry missed the instruction about running Combofix from the desktop. Should I run all the scans again or can I get away with only running Combofix?

Good to hear the logs are clean.

Bitdefender scan reports full path of reported infected file
    C:\Program Files\BillP Studios\WinPatrol\WinPatrol.exe
    Infected with: DeepScan:Generic.Malware.SVWk!.D0AA7C60

I have seen elsewhere that Winpatrol is prone to false positives. I dont understand too much about malware apart from making sure I have up to date anti virus, firewall and regular spyware scans.

Bitdefender is giving you a false positive. If you are very concerned about it you can just uninstall the program.

Yes, you need to move combo to your desktop, you don't need to run it again, but it must be there for my final instructions to work properly.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
