Hi guys, I know this is a new virus, and I did read the Read Me and all the rules there...

I was just wondering.. at this point since i'm infected with this.. and alot is involved with me reformatting.. Is it worth to try and post info here.. or should I just cut a loss, and find someone to back up mystuff to reformat...

Any help would be greatly helpfull...

    Thank you in advance,

    Rhonda

Yes, do post your logs and let's see what they reveal.

That's what I had though... I do have a question though... I can reformat my hard drive after saving all my jpegs and stuff.. however, there are four programs i'd like to save... would it be safe to scan those, to see if they are salvagable?

What programs are you referring to?

Are they single file programs or are they programs that are already installed with many files and folders?

Sorry it took me so long to answer, but It really looks like this one did me in, as I sit here at the library trying to figure things out, as I can no longer access my computer AT ALL.... as I get... <Unmountable Boot Area> Blue screen of death... Computer places suggest making ghost copies of my stuff but being carefull... i'm not sure which route to take when trying to attack this..?? especially now? Any ideas anyone.. from someone who really can't afford to just ... go out and get another one, and call it a loss.. to me this is heart breaking.... any help would be gladly appreciated.

Also when I call around at local computer shops, I try to tell them what I have, and they ignore me and say they handle all virus's the same... is that effective, or do they need to know about this specific virus in order to deal with it?

Oh and the programs i'm referring to are Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop CS3 Extended, and Corel Painter X.... I can redownload the programs sure, but all of my presets and my actions that i've found over the last year or so would be a complete loss.. including pictures that are important... Are programs like that safe to back up??

Hi Kestrel, is it possible anyone could tell me the best way to go about this... I know I have to reformat, but even if jpegs can't be infected surely there is a way to back them up.. If anyone can point me to the safest way to do that. it would be awsome....

I'm just waiting and the computer is just sitting there, and I can't do nothing on it but get into the bios.. and i have no idea what i'm doing there..

    Thank you so much

Hello Lolli, I would advise you to post in the software section regarding the problems you are having now. Then if your machine successfully boots again we can then get to work on the malware removal.

    Best of luck

Sorry: I cannot edit to add to my previous post--wouldn't let me.

I will speak to Chaslang about your concerns about backing up whatever's lurking on your machine.

    Hi there Lolli-

I have spoken to Chaslang who explains that backing up files is not really a topic for the Malware Forum. Do you have the knowledge to do this? If you need help please feel free to drop into the software forum to seek assistance. Your PC is not bootable per one of your last messages. That means you would have to use special methods. Like using your hard disk in another PC as a slave drive. Or you would have to use something like the below:

Use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup Files from Your Dead Windows Computer

What we can advise you to do here in the Malware Forum is that whatever you back up, should be scanned before putting it back onto your PC after formatting.

    Thanks
