I hope this is a good place to put this, the other day I noticed my computer running very slow and acting very weird. I downloaded SuperAntiSpyware and ran it, discovering a LOAD of unwanted programs, so i quarentined and deleted them , ran it again and still had some, eventually got rid of alot of them down to a few. I also have CCleaner and run it frequently.

Today i downloaded AVG and was installing it when my internet all of a sudden died. When I run IPconfig I get :

    Code:
    Windows Ip Configuration

An internal error occured: The request is not supported.

Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services for further help

Additional information: Unable to query host name
When I run Ping local host I get:

    Code:
Unable to contact IP Driver, error code 2,

I also have a file in my Local Settings\Temp that when i try to delete it i get an access is denied message, I have tried everything to delete it, nothing works, not even dr delete or unlocker. I have a feeling this is malware, and part of the problem I am experiencing.

Aswell, my PC originally came with Norton Internet Security 2005, I did not and still do not wish to use Norton and have tried for a long time to remove it all from my PC however every time I try via Add/Remove programs I get the message that it must be removed via an adminstrator... although I am the administrator. I have even tried going in to the Admin account via Safemode and when I try to remove it, it just says that it can only be removed in normal mode not in safe mode... very frustrating.

I have been talking to a Compaq Support Agent and he has had me peform various actions that did not seem to work. I uninstalled and reinstalled the network adapter drivers, reset the winsock catalog, he had me run Combofix & SmitFraudFix,

Will post ComboFix and HijackThis log shortly

After all this is fix, can anyone suggest a good Anti-Virus/Trojan program and a good Anti-Spyware/Malware program. Or even one that combines both?

    Any Help would be appreciated

Please do not post inline logs!

Please uninstall HJT as it will be properly installed when you do the following:

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

Download and save to RenV.exe Desktop (must be on the Desktop)
    * Doubleclick RenV.exe
o When finished, it will produce a new log named Log.txt on the Desktop.
o Attach this log to your next reply.

    ATTACH the following:
    New ComboFIx Log
    AVG-antispyware
    MGlogs.zip

Sorry, my apologies. I will do all those steps and attach the required logs.

Also, I believe this all started from some website. While I was originally installing AVG Anti-Spyware earlier this morning, I was also on google searching for Anti-Virus and Anti-Trojan software, I had typed in Best Anti-Trojan and clicked on a link that was supposed to compare different softwares together, I remember seeing the address in the address bar turn into an ip address and then all of a sudden some weird anti spyware stuff started poping up on my screen saying I could be infected and needed software, I closed it, and next time I rebooted my maching my internet was dead.

You might best be served by doing a system restore to before this happened.

My system restore doesnt show any points that can be restored that are previous from today.

Also due to something messing with my internet I cannot install Spybot. I am continuing on in the procedures though.

Don't worry about Spybot ....Combo fix and the MGLogs.zip are most important.

an update, I received an email from a HP support agent that told me that some of the issues I was having could result from a corrupted tcpip.sys file due to a virus or malware. I copied over the tcpip.sys from my laptop to my desktop, rebooted and IPconfig now works, and I can ping. However IE still does not want to load any pages, going to install firefox and see if that works. Boot up is still very very slow too (hangs on desktop background for about 5 minutes)

I seem to have fixed most of my problem, I was thinking last night and I had also used a program alled BugOff, which allowed me to disable some of the exploits in windows XP and IE. The error that IE was spitting out, had dnserrordiagoff in the status bar at the bottom. I remembered something in BugOff that mentioned reporting errors to be turned off. So I went back and enabled everything I disabled in BugOff and everything seems to be working now. (I Hope) I still think I have malware on my pc somewhere though.

If you haven't already, please disable the Guest account in User accounts.

Please use add/remove programs to uninstall:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10"
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11"
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0"
    Java(TM) 6 Update 2"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Open notepad and copy and paste the following text in the quote box into the window:

    Save this as fix.bat
Choose to save as all files.
Doubleclick fix.bat and let the program run.
A small black dos window will flash, this is normal.
    REboot.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    * Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:

    * Now click the 'Done' button.
    * Click on the traffic light icon and OK the prompt.
    * You will be prompted to restart, OK the prompt and your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt

Download and save RenV.exe to Desktop (must be on the Desktop)
    * Doubleclick RenV.exe
o When finished, it will produce a new log named Log.txt on the Desktop.
o Attach this log to your next reply.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

forgive my aprehension, however I feel a little uncomfortable deleting some of the files via The Avenger. Such as HPBootOp .exe, ctfmon .exe and MsnMsgr .exe etc..

I looked in the folders and those are the only files of the same name, if i delete them wont the programs associated with them stop working? for instance when I click on MsnMsgr .exe Msn Messenger loads up.

You may not have noticed, but they have an extra space after the file name and the ".exe" ...they are vundo infections. Please follow the instructions I gave you and attach the new logs.
You need to download and save RenV.exe to Desktop (must be on the Desktop).
I have edited the previous fix and want you to do this first:
Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as Log.txt to your desktop.
    Code:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Album Starter Edition\3.2\Apps\apdproxy .exe
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\Reader_sl .exe
    C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Boot Optimizer\HPBootOp .exe
    C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched .exe
    C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr .Exe
    C:\Program Files\Sony Ericsson\Mobile2\Application Launcher\Application Launcher .exe
    C:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SUPERAntiSpyware .exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon .exe

    * Now using your mouse, drag Log.txt onto RenV.exe
    * When finished, RenV.exe will produce a new log. Attach the new Log.txt to your next reply.

    Now do the previous fix!

    Your logs look clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
    * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
    * Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
    * How to Protect yourself from malware!

Thanks for all your help, I have got the approriate software installed and running on my computer now, hopefully something like this will be avoided in the future.

also, just for you guys to be aware, BugOff was the culprit that caused my IE not to work properly, so if anyone else recieves DnsErrorDiagOff messages in the status bar in IE when loading it up, check to see if they have used BugOff recently, if they just re-enable the exploits that they would have disabled in BugOff a reboot afterwards will fix it.
