    Hi
Ive been to the 'bleeping.computer website' which gives a tutorial on ComboFix and lists the forums which are able to advise on analysis of the log created - MajorGeeks is one of these.

Could someone let me know why ComboFix can only be run when advised to do so by a 'helper' from a forum?

I have a pretty good grasp of what's contained in the log, and would like to use ComboFix without having to bother anyone in a forum.

Whats they mystery to this software?

    Thanks in advance.

It can "break" your system, it may remove things that you need to know how to put back, there are issues with programs that need to be disabled before running Combo.....it's the same kind of warning you might get with running HJT> and not knowing what you need to or should remove.

    Thanks for replying,

It might be a little frustrating when you have to wait for the go ahead from a helper before running this software.
How many times do you have to run it before you get to the stage where, like yourself, you can fix what goes wrong?

Or to put it another way how experienced do you need to be before you can use it without help?

Is there information somewhere that can help with problems caused by this software? Or is it pretty random?

It is part of our standard cleaning procedures.
It is all part of the learning curve for dealing with malware removal. Most of the tools we use have commands that we can use to remove items, but you have to first know what needs removed as well as the proper syntax for the commands. There are malware universities on line that teach malware removal.

It does sound pretty complicated - I'll always post to the forum first, before using this software.

    thanks

You can always just start studying some of the malware threads and look at both the Combo logs that are posted as well as the corresponding fix. That should give you some idea as to how it is used, but of course, one needs to recognize malware when reading the logs. :)

You also mention online malware tutorial and Ive read on the Technibble.com website that Major Geeks, offers tutorial in exchange for help with the forums, is this true? Or if not could you recommend a site that does online tutorial?

I do appreciate that most is learnt from experience.

I am keen to learn as much as pos about malware removal hence my quest for more information :)

    thanks

Chaslang has been known to take on helpers and train them if his work load is lite enough. Unfortunately, it hasn't been for a while. He suggests these sites for training:

I'll check out the sites suggested.

Ive recently retrained and obtained a couple of Microsoft certifications (whilst holding down a full-time job) so I'm pretty committed :)

    Thanks for the information.
