Speaking of National Parks! One rainy, cold Winter's day I went to Blackheath National Park (Blue Mountains area) with a friend to join a National Trust Group for a (long time planned) bush walk carrying a picnic lunch. We both arrived late missing the group, so set out on our own (two city slickers:D), to try catching up with them.

We got off on the wrong "track" and within 1 hour were lost in the bushconfused (or "geographically embarrassed" as you would say!). LOL Long story cut short, we were lost in the bush for 3 days and 3 nights before finally getting out. It poured rain those 3 days and nights and when we finally got home, no one had missed us!:cry...they thought it was an escapade and finally believed us when they saw how bruised and cut we were climbing cliffs and going through bush land to get out.

In spite of it all, it was a good experience and we were both amazed at how level headed, calm and resourceful we were during those 3 days and nights...I still laugh at things we did at trying to get out/stay dry/keep warm and what occurred over those days...:D

Now I'm very careful when I "go bush" and make sure I have my mobile, snacks and a "flame thrower of a lighter" with me;):p:D.

Don't feel bad, Kestrel. I saw on the news it was flooding in New South Wales, (where L.S. lives) :p, last week. The floods have stopped, but it was still raining last time I checked. The plus, is that the dams really needed the extra water (currently at 30% of capacity in N.S.W.). The Legal-Eagle will correct me if I'm wrong, I'm sure ;).

P.S.:- Blue Mountains is a very pretty area, but dang cold at night, especially in winter. Not a great place to get bushed in, L.S. Glad you lot came out pretty much okay, though. :cool

P.P.S.:- Fine and cold in the west - just how i like it, ROFL! ;)

well, i try not to get involved with anything vaguely 'tech' but i had a question. i seemed to have bumped into the weather channel, which leads me to the question. we have perfect weather. but we have other 'stuff'...geothermals, atmospherics, magnetic fields, and satellites that disappear.

however, things change. things improve. slowly we are 'catching up' to the information highway. with it comes a greater choice of 'can you hear me now'. as we move to the middle of the forest, our dependency on media communications, even of the sporadic kind, has us looking at the 'wireless' technology. (i have written before on the 'magic' of copper wire, now it appears that it is not longer a factor). hawaiian telecom now offer a wireless home phone, high speed internet, and wireless cell phone bundle. my question is.....can you now get the T.V. on the internet. i know you can use a T.V. as a moniter, so is it now possible to get TV via the phone?

Saw an ad on Foxtel where a 'tech nut' was going through a demonstration of how some Foxtel channels (which includes local/commercial channels) can be picked up and watched through a mobile (cell) phone. Didn't get all the details, so can't go further here (guess I was moving into my "switch off" modeLOL)....but I'll bet there's an MG here who can illuminate you further on this.;)

    Cheers

i can do it the other way around. (i think). get the phone service through the t.v., ie. digital or satalite. what i need is cell phone, home phone, internet, and cable TV, all in one package. at the moment we have one up from basic cable, home phone and dsl, and three cell phones and pay $220. there must be a cheaper, more efficient way. i cant get cable anyway, i can get digital "dish". i can get phone. i need to get a lap top.

I downloaded a program even paid for it was 30 something as I remember. But all it showed was movie trailers, commercials, not actual programs, They were really good about refunding though. One of my daughters does watch certain shows on line, desperate housewives for one.

You can have free Digital HDTV through your 'puter right now, for nothing. It's mainly news, weather, sport foreign news, and music, but hey, it's free. The antenna I use is a tiny 6 inch magnetic one, and it pulls in the signals. No need for a separate T.V. ;)

    For example:-

I use one of these USB gadgets (the size of a thumb-drive). Also plays DVD's, has a remote control, etc. (Oh yeah, record whole movies, or snapshots, via P.C. Pretty neat, really.

Some are for Oz & U.K., but there are much more in the U.S./Hawaii area.

Pretty much wind/rain poured here ongoing for almost 3 weeks (didn't mind that...saved me watering garden:p)...but some beach suburbs had blackouts and flash floods which was a nuisance for traffic but nothing serious...Where I live is good/protected, walking distance close to beaches but positioned well enough not to worry.

Even the mad surfers looked pretty miserable along the beaches with the unsurfable waves (kinda felt sorry for themLOL)

Sydney dams now 39.2% still not good enough. *sigh*

Re lost in bush: certainly lost my fear of snakes and spiders...Got to a point of chasing them out for sheltered areas:D...survival of the fittest;) Good experience though...lots of funny incidents, so I'm still laughing. Still enjoy walks and picnic lunches in the mountains - good breather and break away...but stickler to staying on tracks now.

Good deal on the bush exploits.

Reminds me of some of the survival training in the Paras. Enjoyment isn't a term I'd use for being sent in the Zambezi Valley jungle with a military Bowie knife and a Flintstone for company. :0 But that was long ago, when I was a super-fit dude, lol!

Well, it's piddling down with rain in the west, so be prepared for more rain in about two days time, eh. :D

Down here we have companies (eg Telstra and Optus) that provide the type of home service you're seeking (ie cable/dish for TV, internet, landline phone and mobile (cell phone) connection/charges) in one package. It can work out cheaper to have everything rolled into one provider.

You might want to start a new thread on that for more exposure and I'll bet members from your side will probably bombard you with suggestions/recommendations that you can then investigate.

So what did you do for R&R after your exploits in Zambezi? Don't tell me you got onto the computerLOL (When I finally get around to a trip to Africa for a good breakaway, I'll be seeking more "friendly" territory for a photographic safari.)

By the way, starting raining here same day of your e-mail...still not complaining...garden loves it;)

Very little R&R for UXB/UXO removal units. But just basically hit the bars in Salisbury, (Harari). Either that, or read letters from home or books (for the X'th time), and pretend I'm not there for a while.

Nope, no P.C.'s in those days ('79-81), LoL! Unless you had a road train to put it in. (Well, I guess G.C.H.Q.H. had some, but we didn't, eh) One job, I basically try to forget, for the most part.:major
