    Hi guys 'n' gals,

Could anyone help me with a problem I have on initial bootup of my computer?

The problem is that it does not stop at the opening Windows (XP Home edition) screen (that gives the option for all account holders to click on an account icon to boot into their account).

Instead, it continues beyond that screen and opens my account.

The present boot routine came about when I was given the option to initiate a direct boot to my account in Advanced System Care. However, I cannot find anything in the present ASC options to reverse that cold boot option directly to my account.

I even went to ASC technical help and was told to uninstall and re-install Advanced System Care... and that would take care of it...but it didn't.

So now I am asking for help in the software forum in hopes that someone knows what ASC changed in the cold boot process. And I'm hoping that we can go into the right place and change it back...so that on initial boot the computer stops at and presents the initial Windows account/sign-in opening screen.

Hope my explanation above makes sense, and I'll be thankful to anyone who can help me solve this problem. :)

I don't have an XP box running so I can only go by memory.

Go to Start>Run and copy/paste or type control userpasswords2 and hit enter.
Now tick the box for Users must enter a password. Doesn't matter if you have a password or not, it is just telling it to use the welcome screen.
Restart and see if it gives you the Welcome screen.

If that doesn't work then you could try the fixit here for turning off automatic login. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315231

i want to thank you both for your help, Nick T and sach2. Majorgeeks forums are super when it comes to solving problems, and you have done it again.

sach2, your first suggestion was the answer, and it worked prefectly, immediately: ;)

I can't tell you both how much I appreciate your help in solving a problem so simply, elegantly, and quickly.

This is not the last time I will ask a question of the group because I've decided that it's time to face some of these situations on my computer head-on.

Best regards to you both, and have a happy holiday season. :cool :cool
