Hi Guys, I'm back. It's actually been a while. You guys have taught me well how to protect my computer but alas, I can't figure this one out. I have done SEVERAL scans, removed threats but they never seem to remove this one. I have looked on-line and am convinced that this is a virus but all the recommendations so far have failed. I thought I would check with you guys before I have to put money into the fix. When I log onto foxfire to get onto the internet I get a screen that says "Insecure Internet Activity - Threat of viruses.... They give you options to protect or to continue unprotected. Of course if you choose to protect it just sends you to a sight where you have to buy some malware removal download. If I choose to continue unprotected I then get to the navigation screen. I also get the Microsoft "Security Center Alert" popping up a lot saying.... "Do you want to block this suspicious software... spyware.ispynow ... Risk level - High. The only option that is highlighted for you to select is Enable protection which takes you once again to a software sales page. ALSO, when I was running scans I would get a pop up that would say "Application has generated a exception that could not be handled -- process id=0xe18(3608), thread id=0x6c4(1732) these numbers and letters do change each time it pops up Click OK to terminate application, Click cancel to debug application.

So do you have an idea what I need to do to eradicate this darn virus? Some of the searches that I found talked about having to manually remove it but then they go on to say things that make me really nervous that if you do it wrong you can really screw up your computer.... SO this is why I come to you. You guys have always figured things out and walked me through fixes without totally freaking me out. Thanks for your help. Looking forward to hearing from you!!!!!! ;)

I am guessing that other people are having this problem as I see that 61 people already have checked the thread. Has anyone had ANY luck getting rid of this virus? I downloaded a couple more scan and removal programs as I have been searching the internet for others who have had success removing it but none of them have worked either I scan that I don't have any threats or one actually found one which got me pretty excited but after removing it I am still getting the same two pop ups. oooh as we speak the "microsoft" security center alert just popped up saying that I have suspicious software - spywarelispynow- and i should enable protection. that will just send me to some, probably fake, software sight. and still every time I launch FoxFire I get the "Insecure Internet Activity". Quite annoying! I have exhausted my abilities to clean things up. Now I'm at the point that I'm afraid I will wreck something. I'm afraid to delete anything that is not straight forward. If anyone finds anything that works on this virus PLEASE share :cry

Let me give you my latest report. Of course I have been obsessing over this stupid virus so I continued to run scans over and over. Most recently SuperAntiSpyware result 0 threats, then spybot S & D again. result "congratulations there are no threats" Wrong O.... still having the problem so for the 3rd time I ran Malwarebytes and FINALLY something showed up!!!! wooo hooo.... Trojan.FakeAlert. Removed it and so far it looks like that was the ticket. I will attach the malwarebytes log so you can see where it was hiding for anyone who is experiencing the same problem. I don't know why it didn't pick it up the first few times but HEY HEY at least it finally did! :clap

Mole3691 I couldn't post a reply either. I checked some threads and apparently you can post replies in all forums except Malware. Can't say that I understand but it is what it is. SO, hopefully you see this post.

I ran so many scans multiple times with no results that I really can't explain why it finally worked for me but this might help.....Did you read the thread at the start of the Malware Removal Forum "Sticky: READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide" I usually follow these instructions as habit (these guys taught me well!) but what it was very useful for was pointing out some setting changes on the scans that I was using. I generally tend to just use the default settings but they pointed out some changes that I went back in and changed. This could have been the difference. Also make sure to read the part about hidden files and change that setting on your computer as well. This is probably pretty important as it allow access to files you normally wouldn't have access to. And then patience, unfortunately, and just keep scanning. I have to say I wasted the weekend working on this but it was driving me crazy. My kids thought I was crazy when I started dancing around the house when I found it and deleted it.:celebrate:Good Luck! And if anyone finds out why we can't reply in the malware threads I would love to know.

I ran (more than once I might add) spybot , superanti spyware, adaware, vundofix, ccleaner, malwarebytes and there may be some others i'm not thinking of but it wasn't until maybe the third time I ran the malwarebytes did the trojan.fakealert show up, but I did modify the program settings, i hadn't renamed the file as stated in the memo from Sticky, perhaps that made a difference....

Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it somewhere you can find it to install it.

    * Important: Rename the downloaded mbam-setup.exe file to mb.exe to help work around certain malware that will block it from being run.

Double Click mb.exe to install the application.

    * Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. If you have a problem automatically installing the update due to no internet connection or other reason, you can manually download and install the update from here: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Database
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
    * The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    * When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See the Note down below)
    * The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
    * Attach this log to your next reply even if nothing is found. This way we no that the correct updated version of the program has been run

    Note:

If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Only authorized malware fighters and the original poster can reply to threads in the malware section. You can not reply to someone elses thread.

I would suggest that if you found malware, and managed to delete it, you should still attach the requested logs from doing the Read and Run First instructions so that we can be sure all traces are gone. :)
