Hi,i want to install a second hard drive in my HP pavillion so i can eventually directly backup all info on my computer.
I`ve been told it`s more complicated than installing a dvd and/or cd drive (which i`ve done before),because a new hard drive needs partitioning and formatting before it will operate properly.
Is the partitioning and formatting a complicated process? If so ,perhaps i should save myself a headache and stay with one hard drive.
I`m comfortable opening up the case and installing a cd or dvd writer----it`s the partitioning and formatting that i`m hesitant about.
    Thanks for any information

Start - > Run -> type compmgmt.msc, click OK. Under Storage, click on Disk Management. Everything you need is there.

not only is it easy and fun, but if you make a choice that you regret, all you have to do is reformat it again with no loss but a little bit of time! i mean, since it is an empty drive, you can't really mess it up without realllllllyyy trying to. good luck.

Pompste, these people are right. Not only is it easy, but you'll feel like a genuine GEEK when you finish the process and it's all working for you.

Hardware things are the easy ones. It's the software and firmware and drivers and malware infections that take up most of a troubleshooter's time.
