install monitoring software

does anyone know of an app that monitors what files a program installs and where? and keeps a log of those files for each software install

 

Hi, There are a few oof them but I do not know of one that is free. You need to search for "Uninstallers". I think Ashampoo has one.

I find them a bit tedious as it has to take a snapshot of your system before the installation and again afterwards so that it knows the added files etc. This takes some time.

If you go to the home page here and look up the files available you will find them.

 

As mal says, the ones that keep a track of everything every new install does are "tedious". I have never bothered with them. I use an uninstaller that simply lists all programs and their uninstall link, uninstall the program, and then run a Registry Cleaner that gets rid of any miscellaneous bits left behind. I am too impatient to run a "before and after" type installer (as most of use probably are), but you may have more patience than me. Bazza

Hi, I noteyour name and it is possible that one of the uninstallers will get rid of unwanted files. I used a Reg Cleaner which did get rid of a telltale pirated program that was put in by a legitimate program. Unfortunately the reg cleaner also messed up another program.

Most reg cleaners I have use will not get rid of the telltale as they regard it as legitimate.

There are a couple of programs on the warez boards that can clean a computer so that share programs can be used past their intial dates but they also can cause problems.

If the program is really good then buy it and ask the owners how to get rid of the telltale.
