I'm helping someone who installed Windows XP Pro on 2 computers.
I know you can't do that so now I'm trying to revert back to old
operating system which is Windows XP Home Edition OEM.
She has no disks for this computer and I'm trying not to lose anything.
She has a Product Key on her computer but no disk to install.
She already installed Win XP Pro on with that product key thats
installed but not activated on a laptop.
There both asking to be activated and you can't do that.
I need to revert back to her Windows XP Home Edition.
Is there away to remove the last install of Win XP Pro and go back to WinXP
    Home Edition.

Is there anyone who can help me
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I'm a new here
    Thank You
    Tazz

I have deleted one reply as MajorGeeks.com does not condone piracy of software. One license, one computer. No excuses.

I know there's no excuses that's why I'm trying to remove it and bring back to her License Windows XP Home Edition.
I wanted to know if that was possible on this computer?

My comments were not aimed at you, Bandman. I see you are attempting to correct the error your friend made. My comments were to the person who replied to your original post, suggesting an illegal work around. I have since deleted that post, in the best interests of MajorGeeks.com.

I didn't even see the other persons reply so I wasn't sure what was going on.
I'm pretty new to this site and that's correct I'm only trying to help out a woman in distress.
I tried to install Windows Home Edition and it errored out and locked up because it saw a newer version.
I need it not to see the O/S version she installed.
She was trying to setup remote desktop so she thought she was doing things correctly.
I believe there's a line in the registry that you delete and you can install whatever
you want with a valaid license.
I'm not sure where that is.

She also hasn't registered either install.
All I want to do is revert back to the old O/S on her
destop computer and register her other install so she
has a legal copy on her computers.

I think the only way to go about doing that would be reinstalling it...sorry I can't be of more help

Put the legitimate XP disc in, and when it comes to setting up, choose the C partion, choose to format, format the present partition, then install XP Home.

I don't know if this is possible...if she wants to keep Pro on the computer that came with home, can't she call MS and get a key for an upgrade from Home to Pro. (She would have to know what the key was for Home; it should be on a sticker somewhere on or in the computer if she didn't get any disks). She'd have to pay but it doesn't cost as much as a full pro version then all that would have to be done is change the key in the registry. The notebook could then be registered with no fear that the legitimate key on there would get blacklisted.

    Hi'
I installed a licensed Win XP Pro and I lost everything that I was trying not to lose.
Everything says to reinstall MS Office and everything else which she only had on computer.
I also lost all users permissions by installing another Win XP Pro.
If I new about the Product Key in the registry I would of put a Licensed Win XP Pro
Product Key. Now I have to spend along time because she didn't even have her drivers
for the motherboard. This should of been a lot easier than what I had to go through.
I couldn't even go on the internet because the drivers were gone.
Your suppose to be able to refresh windows and I've done it plenty of times.

Can you tell me how to remove this posting.
