Hi,I think I know what I'm doing but I just want to check with you guy's. I'm helping a friend install a dvd burner. She already has a cd writter and dvd rom on her PC and she just bought a dvd burner. I say pull out the cd writter and replace it with the dvd burner and leave the dvd rom alone. And also I think I'm right to make the dvd burner as the master and the dvd rom as the slave. Correct me if I wrong plzzzzz.
    Hugsssss,

Pull the DVD-Rom, leave the CD-RW burner.

You guys know better than I do on this one,but I was just thinking that now there would be two burners on the pc. The dvd burner can burn CDR's so why have two burners, just curious. And also which one would be the Master then.

I would leave the dvd rom in as you said. The dvd burner may burn cd's slower but I prefer it this way as I can copy dvd's from dvd rom directly to dvd burner. SM

Definitely leave the CD burner, and remove the DVD Rom.

Reason being DVD burners aren't that great at burning CD's (especially some game and audio CD's etc).

They really only excel in playing and burning DVD's.

DVD burners still burn CD's OK, but if you have a CD burner, why not use it.

I would have the DVD burner as the Master on the Secondary Controller.

CD burner as the Slave on the Secondary Controller.

    Hugsssssssssss. :)

i say pull the cd burner and leave the dvd-rom. when i was faced with the same situation, i pulled the dvd-rom, left the cd burner, and added a dvd-rw. now, if i want to backup a dvd, i have to copy it to my computer first. sadly, i regret my decision and wish i would have left my dvd-rom. the dvd-rw burns cd's just fine (at 40x) and the time difference between the dvd-rw and the cd-rw (40x, 48x respectively) is not enough of a trade off to the time it takes to copy a dvd to the computer first.

If it's that old then get rid of it.

    Old burners are crap.

Just run the DVD burner as Master on the Secondary Controller.

DVD Rom as Slave on the Secondary Controller.

Yep, I just read this post...Insomniac is right. Esp. with that old cd-rw unless the dvd-rom breaks. I also did this very thing, dvdrom-slave, pulled out cdrw and put in dvdrw-master.
