Installing DirectX9.0c

I just downloaded DirectX 9.0c from FileHippo and am now at a stage where I have been asked to: "Please type the location where you want to place the extracted file". I can browse my files too, of course, but I really don't know where I should be placing the extracted file? Any help on this? I'm doing this because I want to play a game that requires DX 9 or later and I don't believe I had it on my computer since the game will not run. (I really don't know what all I have as far as what is needed to play games.) I'm using Win2000 Pro w/SP4. In the computer properties it shows my computer has: "Intel(R) Pentium; (R) 4 CPU 1500MHz; AT/AT COMPATIBLE; 261,136 KB RAM...I don't know if all that info is needed but I figured I'd throw it out here in case it helps. Thanks for any help in advance!

it's from microsoft.com, and it's an executable instead of a zipped file.

what game are you trying to run? if it's a newer game, you might not be able to run it. Your video card will have to support it, along with directx 9.

you can run the hardware wizard in everest if you need help on figuring out what hardware your computer currently has.

as far as the file goes,it usualy tells you where its going to extract it to and i usaly just let it do its thing.cause at the end when u push finish their should be a box thats checked and says open file after finished or something like that just make shure it is checked and u should be fine.but now like they were saying about the game, you better check the games requiermnts and make shure they match and do not exeed your system or youl be going threw all this for no reason. hope this was helpfull and good luck, keep us posted on what happens.
