Installing Roxio Creator CD

I might have done some permanent damage here yet again maybe not
I borrowed a friends' CD Roxio Creator & MyDVD 9.0 DE to install on my WinXP Desktop.
Inserted in disc drive and the set up began. But a pop up appeared saying that to continue with the wizard, I would have to Uninstall Sonic DLA (which is WinXP CD copy facility) then it wanted to delete the Update Manager for Sonic. It said that the installation would fail if i did not agree. So I clicked Yes to the prompts and the wizard completed set-up.
Were these necessary because of conflicts that would occur with the software or have I just done something really really stupid?

I just noticed that Roxio Creator is made by Sonic Solutions.
