installing xp problem

hi there,im installing xp for the first time on someone else's pc...i think they had millennium edition on it until now..but it stops at the blue screen with an error that prevents xp from continuing and one of the components needed could not be installed.....what might be the prob here?

 

Can you elaberate about the error and the other messages you get?

 

it says the following.....

an error has been encountered that prevents setup from continuing.
one of the components that windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

incorrect function.

press ok to view the setup log file.



error:
installation faled:e/1386/asms.error message:incorrect function

fatal error:
one of the components that windows needs to continue setup couldn not be installed.
incorrect function.


163-time and date could not be installed

then reboots.

 

If drive E: is you opticle drive, you may have a scratched disk, dirty drive, or a defective opticle drive. Do you have another drive you can try? Also, inspet the cd for scratches.
