Intenet security or antivirus

I am using Kaspersky internet security. I have no idea how to use this and it seems to be doing an awful lot of nothing. I also purchased NOD32 antivirus/spyware If I use nod32/winfirewall/linlsys router, am I as safe without all the bells and wistles provided by the internet security (Kaspersky) any recomendations. I get much better performance with Nod32-av than I do with Kaspersky internet sec.

Kaspersky is a good system but the security suites have created some of their own problems. I can recommend Nod32, but I would go for a two-way firewall which the Windows firewall is not. You need to know and see what programs are connecting with the internet and your router firewall alone won't help you there. Windows firewall will only monitor what's coming into your system, not what's trying to get out. Please take a look at our recommendations at How to Protect Yourself from Malware. This describes a variety of combinations which offer good protection and utilize low resources.

Thanks abri. I just installed smart security by eset Is this firewall good enough Also I just upgraded to vista ultimate 64 bit OS and so far so good. I was running and upgraded version of home premium from xp is this enough protection for me. I am carefull were I go online I have an older PC for that and I game alot online.Thanks joei

You will have to pay close attention to whether software is made for 64 bit. Vista is unfortunately not immune to viruses, but not all the protection software and tools for fixing it have caught up yet. Keep your system restore on so you can get around incompatibility issues that way. Eset is a good company. If Eset works with 64 bit, then I'm sure it's good.
