Look at countries like Japan, China and India. I have a feeling this planet will have to undergo some enormous changes in ways of living, when they reach our standard of living (China is estimated of reaching the US standard of living by 2030).

Whereas the trend for most nations is an increase in the standard of living for some, unlike 1st world nations, this does not extend evenly across the population. Most of rural China and India is still desperately poor, and haven’t changed a whole lot in the last 50, or even 100 years.

China, India, Mexico, and other nations are riding the crest of exploiting the dirt cheap labour market at the moment. But as wages go up, so 'employment opportunities for the uneducated (which is most of the population) will reduce. Early last century, we had the cheap labour masses. Later it became Japan, then Korea and so forth.

China is creeping up a lot with their one child per family policy, but get outside of the major cities and the poverty is still there. Actually, in a lot of cases they are worse off than when they were scratching an existence in the ground. At least they had something.

Also keep in mind that despite all the moaning and groaning we all do from time to time, the average 1st worlder's standard of living is also increasing. Someone out of work, as pitiful as the income is, may well have a higher standard of living than our fathers or grandfathers did working 40-50 hours per week.

Only in the first one though... It is basically non-existant in the other maps...

Agreed....it was the first map I was referring to, since I couldn't see it in the others. My apologies...I should have been more specific :)

Greenland is actually there on the other maps, but it's funny looking 'V' shape. Speaking at funny shaped countries, check out Australia in the second, forth and fith maps. We'd be nothing but coastline, LoL.

Along with what phantom said there also isnt enough resources 'oil' for them to be as large as we are or have been, they will never have our standard of living, peak oil is going to happen in the next 10-15 years and afterward the whole globe will descend into a perminant gradual recession,America and the UK also have control of the last oil deposits in the caspian sea ,afghanistan and iraq which will be the only places left with oil after 2020,American and English companies have already been given the contracts to mine them so its doubtful China will get any.

China are also planning on building more coal fired power stations as we did during the industrial revolution, each one will produce more CO2 than the whole of the uk and they're building 30 so I guess we will impart some sort of trade embargo on them in the near future, its hypocritical for us to say "have an industrial revolution, just dont do it like we did" we'll have to lead by example or just stop trading with them

We just have to hope Fusion reactors get going smartish:)

Just because we cant imagine it yet, I believe by 2020 fusion will be in the past, or so to speak. These days were just to smart...oh crap....Were doomed!
