What internet accelerators do you guys use, if any? I just tried IE Accelerator 2.01

and am not sure if I see a difference. I am on a network DSL, so it's pretty fast already, and I don't even know if I need it or not.

What are your opinions on this, and what do you use? Just curious!

HI, I don't use any. I use Opera and usually have 6 windows open and switch from one window to the next while the others are loading in the background.

I can't keep up with them now. LOL Peace Mal

I dont use Internet Accel's but I do use Download Accel's. It's nice to be able to resume a download and increase your downloading speed alittle bit. I use Download Express.

I also use a Tcp/Ip tweaker to get the most out of my Cable line. For that I use TCP Optimizer. :)

    Eric,
The most that those tools will ever do is make some registry tweeks that can be done in better ways.
Some of the create a cache of visted webpage images and so forth to allow you to "load" faster. If you on a DSL line, screw em, just get info on how to tweek your settings to be optimized for the DSL and you'll get more then any of these programs could ever do for you

    Yo, Star--
Tell me, if you please, what you don't like about memory manglers? I'm still trying to figure out if they are worth bothering with, so could use another take. Is there anything to the claim that RAM gets taken up with apps no longer in use, so that as a session moves along there is less and less available memory?

it has some useful stuff for XP mind, that is disable executive caching etc. and unload dlls from memory. The memory recovery thing i find only useful when im working on photoshop and lots of instances of IE and/or msn and other bits and pieces. just stops the thing falling over!

Well when a program is in use it will write to the RAM. a well optimized program will dump this stored memory once it no longer needs it. Sometimes either data gets stuck in ram or doesnt get dumped, sits there suckign up good system resource.. This thing is, if you have a program running in background and clearing ram every so often....It takes up its own resource, probaly mroe then these little bit that it frees are taking up. Basicly yes they are pointless, dont give enough returns to make them worth using.

in some situations they do help, where a lot of programs are running and may not flush their memory allocation if they exit suddenly, but as matey says for more people its not worth it. if you need more ram, you need more ram!

There's one accelerator that made sense in theory. It was evrox I believe. It would benchmark your performance, make a few changes, then restart and benchmark again. It would do this about 10-15 times and then would use the setting that gave the best results. I never got time to fully test it before the demo expired, but it's probably worth a try.
