Internet Access Problem

    As of yesterday, accessing the internet (ISP ATT) started taking 2 minutes or more on my desktop regardless of browser. Once net access is gained, all is normal. However, if I then attempt to open the net with another browser, the same delay problem occurs even though I'm on the net with the original browser at the same time.

    This problem occurs when attempting to update anti-malware, etc. Interestingly, my wife uses WIFI from the same ISP router/modem and doesn't have the problem.

    I'm not sure if this is an ISP problem or malware. No problems show up on Malwarebytes (paid), Iobit (free) or Hitman (free trial). Any help would be appreciated.

    When you say "accessing the internet", do you mean the page you are requesting in your browser is taking 2 minutes or more to load?
    If so, does this occur with all requested pages?
    Does your internet connection 'icon' appear to be normal in your system tray @ bottom right of monitor?

    Seeing your wife is having no issues on the same LAN, its not likely a network or ISP issue.
    It sounds like its confined to your local desktop machine.

    What Operating System?
    Is your NIC internal or a USB interfaced external adapter?

    What do you mean?
    Are download speeds slow, or are you unable to connect to the relevant server to download updates at all?

    Thanks for the reply. Actually the problem is now solved (I hope) as it has not resurfaced all of yesterday, 7/22, and so far today. What I first tried was rebooting the modem which worked but only for a very short period of time. Then I unpluged the modem for a while and shut down my desktop over night which I never do. Yesterday morning when I booted up all was fine. However, who knows if these steps actually resolved the issue. ATT is always in the back of my mind when something is amiss (been there done that). I should mention that my PC came with Win 7 and then I upgraded to 10 when 7 was no longer being supported. Since 10 has been installed, infrequent freezes and slowness browsing the net have occured. You did mention my desktop could be the problem.

    Almost forgot. You did ask about what I meant by accessing the net problem . What was happening was when I attempted to open the net through any means (browsers, updating anti-malware, mail), it would take 2-3 minutes to do so. Malewarebytes would actually terminate its update pursuit due to the delay in waiting for net access. When clicking a browser for access, it would act normally taking me to where it always does screenwise but would then just sit there for 2-3 minutes before the net would finally open.

    Ahhhh yes, the dreaded upgrade is no doubt a major suspect in many of these issues!

    Upgrading OS's and laying registry's 'over the top' of one another has proved to be the source of multiple sleepless nights for many!

    Replicators Bible for Operating Systems:

    Please always back up all data to an external drive!
    Please always Clean Install any new OS after a complete format of the hard drive!
    Always give the registry a clean start to avoid conflicts.

    Problems have shown to be magnified in recent years especially because of upgrades from 7 to 10.
    Microsoft gave out bad advice in offering this option a while ago.
    I have seen it time and again.....even in the corporate environment.

    I would bet next weeks wages that this is the core of your issue.
