Internet access problems - possibly due to firewall

    Hi there,

Quick background story... My C Drive was reporting as nearly full so i did a load of housekeeping / file deletes etc. (i'm on Windows XP home) - I feel I may have got rid of something I shouldn't have but no idea what??

Now when i log on to Internet whilst I can get many sites, where I need to then log on using a user name and password (e.g. banking, facebook) I get a 404 message. I did use Firefox, but also can't get that to open now so have reverted to IE.

I get the feeling I have a firewall problem. I have Norton IS 2002 but when i open it all the action buttons to me are greyed out - i.e. I can't disable the "enable security" check box nor access the custom or default levels. I tried to uninstall it but it says I can't because I don't have administrators rights.

I feel i have reached the extent of my own capabilities to fix this:cry

As usual, any help you can provide would be gratefully received

    Thanks and regards
    Mark

Internet access to secure sites problem - firewall related?

    Hi there,

I've completed all the run me / read me actions following my previous thread on this subject and now posting a new thread as requested.

My problem is that I cannot access internet pages which are secure sites (e.g. trouble getting on to banking sites, facebook etc). Also I use Firefox and that also seems to have stopped working and I've reverted to IE.

The problems started about a week ago after I realised my C Drive was full and I did quite a lot of file and program deleting (I didn't keep a record of what I deleted). I'm on Windows XP personal.

I completed the read me run me activities and my PC is now running quicker and i have freed up quite a bit of space on the C Drive. However the other problems have not gone away.

My "layman's" conclusion is that I have a firewall problem. I use Norton IS 2002. I have purchased a 2008 edition but I can't load that because it needs me to remove 2002 version but I can't - I get the message "A norton internet security account with supervisor access must be logged in to uninstall this product".

The only thing I didn't do from the read me run me list was to download and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware - the downloads would not work. All the other logs are attached.

Thanking you in advance of any help you can give.

    Hi there,

I don't seem to have had a response to my last post with all my logs which was over a couple of weeks ago.

Sorry if I'm chasing too early.

    Thanks

Sorry for the delay.....we are swamped. :(

I am not seeing any malware in your logs.....I would suggest that you post in the software forum regarding your issues with uninstalling Norton.

Have you run MWB's on each user account? And have you tried uninstalling with the Norton removal tool? Did someone set a password when it was installed?
