I have a very odd problem with the internet on my computer.

It will start out going regular speed and slow down more and more and more until its very slow.

I have a dialup creative modem.
One thing i have seen is that part of my phone line is kinda crushed.

This problem is very noticeable and anoying when playing runescape.
First there is no lagat all, then there is more, and more and so on until it starts booting my connection when I try to do anything.

Any help wopuld be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

As modems encounter more line problems, their ability to effectively correct transmission errors at their highest speeds is insufficient, so they "fall back" to a slower speed in order to compensate-- your connection is slower, but the error-correction can at least work.

I'd suggest trying a few things to check your line quality. Pick up the phone in a quiet room and dial a single digit, breaking the dialtone, and then listen-- do you hear hiss, hum, crackling noise, static? It's best to start with the jack the PC is hooked up to and work outwards to where the phone service enters the house. Is the line noise only at the computer's jack, or at all jacks? Modern telco NIDs (the box on the side of your house) have jacks in them you can use to eliminate your house wiring altogether from your testing. You can open the outer cover-- usually requires a screwdriver-- unplug the little pigtail plug from the jack therein, and plug a standard phone into it. If you do the same thing you did on the house, and hear noise there, you're in good shape, as it means the noise is the phone company's problem, and it's up to them to fix it. If not, and the noise is only in your house, then it's up to you to fix.
