Traveling outside the country for extended periods, I need to pay my credit card. Wondering about the security of using public comps in internet cafes, etc. Don't tell me about finding a hotspot for my PDA, 'cause I don't have or want one. Good luck finding a hotspot in Central or South America, anyway.
    Any suggestions?

Only things that come to mind to watch out for or do are.....

    1. Make sure in Tools > Internet Options > Advanced, that Do Not Save Encrypted Pages to Disk is checked.

    2. You make sure no-one is looking over your shoulder

    3. Once finished if the PC allows it Delete Cookies, Temp Internet Files and History

    4. if you can once all of the above is done reboot the PC

    5. Can you not setup some payments to be made from your bank in your absence ( kinda like pre-setup dates for payment of amounts you think you may need to make then deal with any outstanding balance once back in country )

    6. Is their a local bank that you could use?

I'm pretty sure that internet cafe' and security don't belong in the same sentence. You are relying on someone else to ensure there are no trojans, viruses, or other malicious content on the machines. In addition, you are assuming that the cafe owner has honest intentions and isn't using a keylogger.

Halo beat me to it, as usual.

Get the bank to make a payment on a certain day, each month, or whatever.
Explain to your credit card provider that you will be out of the country for a while and that you may be behind in full payments for a month, or two..
Maybe set a daily limit on how much can be withdrawn, in a day, in case someone steals your card. A little bit inconvenient for you, but another safety method.
Don't keep your cards in your wallet, in case that goes missing too.
Get a money belt and keep spare cash, in it. Bazza

Or buy a rechargable gift card that only has $20 or $25 stored on it.

You then would not give any information about yourself.

Our local grocery store and BankOfAmerica sell these.

    :)

My bank sells preloaded visa cards. Kind of like a one time debit card, I would certainly recomend that, I've started using them for online purchases, as they don't cost anything to get.
