Internet connection disabled

Hello, I'm new here.

I have just been working on a computer for a couple of days trying to get rid of a spyware problem by checking out other posts and using the information that I have found. It was a spyware that would install an autorun.exe and printer.exe in my windows\system32 directory. I seem to have finally gotten rid of most of the problem except for when I try to log on to IE in normal mode, I can't open any web pages. (the internet connection is disabled and I can't enable it). If I go on IE in safe mode with networking it will find the sites. I tried to do a windows update while in safe mode but the web site would error out when I went to have it scan the system. Any ideas would help, but I won't be able to try them until later seeing I'm not at the computer right now.

Have you tried this:

From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.
Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden Files and Folders option.
Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.
In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive that contains the Windows folder.
Click the Search button.
In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.
