    Hello Major Geeks Folk -

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100 Pentium 4 CPU, 2.40 GHz, 512 MB RAM with MS Windows XP Pro, Ver 2002, SP2. It has operated fine using a Belkin 54g wireless, connecting to Mozilla, IE, and an RDP server. Suddenly, I cannot connect to the internet using any of these techniques even though my primary PC connects as normal. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, and refreshing the Belkin wireless connections. When trying to connect to the internet using any method, I get an immediate error message that is identical in each case. The message states:

"firefox.exe / internet explorer / remote desktop connection has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

The prepared technical report to be sent to Microsoft contains this info - Each type of access' info is shown, and the same Exception code are displayed:

Exception Info for Firefox, AppVer: 1.8.20060.7278
Exception Info for IE, AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180
Exception Info for mstsc.exe, AppVer: 5.1.2600.2180

    Code: 0xc0000005
    Record: 0x0000000000000000
    Flags: 0x00000000
    Address: 0xffffffffb068a5aa

Each Exception group is followed by System Info, and then several numbered "modules" containing lengthy codes.

Please provide some guidance on how to rectify this.

    Thanks,

    Bob

    Hi Tim

No idea if RAM is Kingston or not. I bought the laptop directly from Dell resale online, and it is stock material from them. Is there a way to tell? Don't recall seeing it on the System description info. If it is, then....??

    Hi Tim

A status update on the problem. Can't run ActiveScan because can't access internet. Ran all programs I could as recommended for antivirus by MajorGeeks threads. (did all this as a precaution in 2005). I run paid version of Bitdefender and it is updated regularly - has always caught items before.

Everest appears to be an info program. What it lists for memory states "System Memory 512 MB (PC2100 DDR SDRAM)" - no manufacturer I can find. Everest also states I have 512 MB Physical memory with 44% utilization, 1247 MB Swap space with 20% utilization, and 1758 MB Virtual Memory with 27% utilization.

Installed and ran MemTest for 2 hrs (5167%) and had zero errors of all unused memory.

Registry Mechanic found over 800 problems in many areas and repaired about 100. 700 remaining problems in file extensions (6), Shared DLL (25), Add/remove programs (88) [I checked all listed programs - no unusual ones], 8 temp files/shortcuts, and in Deep Scan (574). Of course Reg Mech wants paid registration to repair these remaining issues, but I cannot access online to do so. Is it worth it to purchase registration via my main PC and load the registration info on laptop and run Registry Mechanic?

I also tried opening Word and Excel, and they work fine. But an html editor got the same error problem.

I checked eventvwr.msc (RUN) and under application there are errors listed for each attempt to use IE, firefox, rdp server. Each one lists the same Fault address as 0xb068a5aa.

Any other guidance or things to try? Thanks for your suggestions and help!

    Bob
