Internet Connection Virus

Hi,
I have adsl broadband at home and recently I keep getting this "page not found" page in my web browser. I can connect fine and when I get this error it still says that I am connected to the internet. I have tried everything - antivirus, spyware removal, resetting browser settings etc. This problem happens randomly, I can connect and it will be fine and then suddenly I try to access a page and nothing, From then I cannot get any more sites - and it happens in all browsers - netscape, firefox. Eventually I will get internet access again but then it can stop working again at any time.

I am trying HiJack this to see if its a virus of some sort. I have attached my log file, so If someone can help me in spotting something that could be the problem, it would most helpful.

Welcome to Majorgeeks!

You have several problems! One of them is a Wareout infection but you really need to work thru the below procedure to uncover all possible other hidden malware. HijackThis actually shows very little of the possible infections. Also you must get HijackThis installed correctly (covered in step 7 of the READ ME).

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)

Thanks for your help.

I will try what you suggested.

But judging by the problems I have described about my internet connection, do you think its likely to have been caused by a virus?

as Chas mentioned above you have some malware on your pc and this maybe part of the culprit, so following the guide in the order laid out will narrow or remove the malware aspect, then if still present then we can look into your connection, but best to rule one thing out at a time.

And that is exactly why I said to run thru those procedures.....because you have some infections. WareOut is an infection and it is not a virus and will not be discovered by antivirus programs.

As Halo said, doing all the steps in the READ & RUN ME provides me with a detail look of other potential problems on your PC and alllows me to create a more comprehensive manual cleanup procedure that will be run after all the other steps have been finished.
