I used to browse the internet for leisure from my laptop, but when I moved it suddenly cannot connect. I am using the same CAT 5 cable that is connected to this computer, so cable is sound. The port also has light when I plug it in. The other end of the cable is connected to 'Zyzel 600 series' router, which I also had in the old house, so basically nothing had changed: If there would be anything wrong with connection from router, I would soon notice... So I think the problem is with the software, as the os, Win98 had also developped shutting down problem. (Could these two problems be connected? I have to set it to re-start and then quickly use the off switch when it's going to start again)

I don't know how to know for sure, but I think the problem is software, rather than with the hardware. I suspect my laptop cannot detect, or rather has lost the login and access information that my ISP posted to me with my sign-up. How do I check this?

I tried to go to My Computer > Control Panel > Internet Options > Connections tab > Setup, but instead of going through the setup, I get a pop-up stating Internet Connection Wizard "failed to load Internet Connection Wizard helper component" and clicking the "OK" button (twice) takes me back to Control Panel. Is there a way to fix this, or to get around it, so I can surf with my laptop again? I think my ISP (Nildram) provides me with a dynamic IPaddress...

    SPECIFICATIONS

Pentium 2, (don't know the processor speed)
    192 MB RAM
    20GB HDD
    Win 98 SE
    Zyzel 600 series' wired router

    About the router:

Aparently one cannot change the settings without a male to male cable and a software disk, both which are supposed to be lost. However, none of us three users could connect to the net before my ex came to fix it but he used my son's computer, not mine, so I don't know what he did but all computers started working again. Anyhow, my connection details have not changed.

Let me get this straight, you moved?

Typically, if you move, you probably would get a new IP. I'd reset, and reconfigure your router. Or, skip the router, and try to directly connect to your modem, from your computer.

Or is this a DSL router/modem combo?

Unfortunately it is a combo, but I don't think the IP is a problem, because the router works with all the PCs. I cannot access the settings of the router anyway, as I would need the right harware+software. :(
