Hi I have a problem but not sure where to post it!!

I am running two computers, not new ones Windows XP on both, two laptops, an acer notebook running windows xp and full size acer laptop running windows vista. A playstation 3 all networked through a new apple airport extreme router.

The only thing I did new was download Utorrent and we were using piratebay as a download site. We have since stopped as I am not sure if that is the problem.

When we attempt to get onto the internet it will sometimes allow us onto our home pages but will usually tell us there is no connection even though the icon on the task bar states it is connected. If you hit the refresh button the webpage comes up.

The laptop with vista is the worst sometimes you can get on. When you go into the control panel it shows the connection as his computer is talking to the router but it won't go on line. Local connection only.?????

The playstation won't recieve the signal at all??? The I touch shuts off on itsown

Do I have a virus? malware? hidden trojan??> Is there a good program out there I could scan my computer with?

Have you tried plugging a computer directly into your modem?

    Welcome to Major Geeks, peppermintpatty.
I, myself, don't feel OK with torrenting sites. Too many bad things can get on your machines from the bad ones.
May possibly want to close your browsers and run some scans for insurance.

There is a good chance that you have a virus but you may also have a winsock problem preventing access to the internet.

After you do the malware scans, you could try to repair the winsock. To repair Winsock if you have Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) installed, type netsh winsock reset at the command prompt, and press ENTER. If you don't have SP2 or higher, there are a lot of programs that will do it for you. Just search "winsock repair" on the internet.

    Thanks for the replies!!
Yes, I have tried all the computers connected directly to the internet cable. Same thing happens.
I have also ran the standard protocol for major geeks, all the virus scans and the malware, it turned up three items on one of the scans thats it.
I have talked with Apple ( their router) and my service provider, nothing.
The computers all will work, except you have to hit refresh almost after every new webpage you visit to get it to pop up. Except the vista os laptop, that is a nighmare.
It will only connect "local only" occasionally it will give you " internet too"
I have a computer guy coming over on Sunday to take a look, maybe he can figure it out.
I will research the netsock thing though, thanks.

Can't wait to find out what the computer tech finds.

    I'll be waiting patiently.

BTW: Who is your Internet Service Provider?

    Computer savvy?
    Reformat?
    All the different machines?
Have you confirmed that that particular connection was enabled?
