internet dongle

    i have a 3 internet dongle (uk) connected to a home pc is there any way i can speed it up.
    or do i just grit my teeth and take it like a man.:confused

    Sadly you will have to take it like a man! but could you tell me some info as in what Windows version you using and Service Pack?

    What speeds are you getting with the 3G 3 Dongle? can use Speedtest here to test that out (depending on signal strength to the tower, you should get on average off 3G 512KB - around 2mb/s but that's an estimation off my O2 3G tethering off my phone).

    Are there any updated drivers for the dongle from 3 at all?

    What is the security apps you are using? please name all and if you disable them is your speed any quicker?

    hi david,
    thank you for taking the time to reply.
    i ran the speed test my results are download speed 2.34mbps and uplaod speed is 0.32mbps. my system is windows 7 pro. not sure what you mean by service pack? tis all new to me. security is ms security essential backed up by a malware sweep every couple of days. as for drivers i will check for updates.

    Hi Paul

    Cheers for the info and to be honest your running at the max that a 3G dongle will give you, don't think their is any tweaks I can offer you to speed up your connection, Microsoft MSE is a great light AV so you are covered that way for malware and its not a main drag on internet speed as far as I can tell in using it myself.

    Actually 2.34mb/s is really good off 3G in the UK.

    cheers david, thanks for the help. i downloaded amigo360 system speedup and things seem quicker. i ran a check on drivers with slim drivers and found most need updating. not so sure about this but will make it my next task.
