I came across IEx version 8 for Win XP. At start of download I get a message that states if I install this XP version I cannot uninstall the current version I have of IEx8 since I have a service pack that was added after IEx8 was installed. No explanation or reference as to why I would or would not want to uninstall the #8 version I now have.
Is there some reason I would want to uninstall the version 8 I have before loading the XP version?
I noticed also, that this version has gotten good reviews from sundry computer media editors, but only fair ratings from users.
    Appreciate any thoughts on this.

Can you provide links to these "versions" of IE8? You seem to have the notion that there are two different versions of IE8 for Win XP. That makes no sense. IE8 is IE8, period.

    Hi

What XP Service Pack do you have installed?

If you open your installed IE up and then click Help > About, what version is listed (its a longish code, generally 8+ digits)?

But as stated if you have IE8 then you have IE8 and that's why a downloadable version may not install.

    IEx 8 Version:
    8.0.6001.18702IC
    Svc Pack 3, Build 2600

I will need to do some research on where I got my iinfo about IE8 for Win XP.
I forgot I had an auto scan set up while I am out, and it sets up to reboot when done. I had site with this Win XP/IE8 on hold.
I seem to recall it came from CNet or something similar.

IE 9 is now available anyway.

IE9 does not work on XP and will never work on XP as per Microsoft.

If IEx 9 will not work with XP, then I'll just stay with #8 as it is currently loaded.
Appreciate responses and suggestions. Thanks have been posted.

Whilst not disputing this, I can see an interesting issue on the horizon... Google have said that they will only support the current and previous one verion of internet browser. Not sure when they plan to start this but if no versions of IE after 8 will work with XP then Google will not support any of its products on XP from the next IE release. in other words all XP users will need to switch to an alternate browser:confused:confused:confused

That could lead one to think other programs will follow shortly bailing out on XP. MS even seems to be bailing out.
I bought my own copy of XP Pro a few years ago and loaded it on my PC clone. Somehow it got damaged several months ago, and I cannot use it to correct some glitches or reload, so I called MS customer support.
I got the tuna commercial reply (Sorry Charlie)
Since I did not get it through a brand name PC manufacturer, and whatever warranty they gave it is gone, they intend to do nothing.
Thought about just replacing it, but prices for new XP discs haven't decreased much it seems, and I am leery of used..
Gave buying 7 a thought, but I really don't want to have to start learning how to use another OP when I am just starting to learn nuances of XP

MS will do security updates for XP through April 8 2014.

    As far as google
So IE 8 is still supported. I should have noted that this is August 1 2011.
