Internet Explorer 9 or Google timing me out of typing on google.co.uk

I am running Win 7 64 Bit and have IE9 as my web browser.
When I open IE9 which opens www.google.co.uk (and do not click in the search box) if I start typing, suggested sites appear below the search box.
    No problem there…but….

If I pause at any time, after starting to type, for around 1 second then none of my subsequent typing appears and is ignored completely. Several suggested sites for the text I managed to type appear below. If I press the Down key the screen scrolls down slightly then does not respond to the down/up keys so I can’t see any purpose to this.

If I then click with the mouse in the text box I can continue to type. If I open the Google home page and then use the mouse to click in the search box the problem does not occur.

I am using .co.uk but just tried .com.au and .com.sg and they don’t have the problem. If I type google.co.uk into the URL bar it still has a problem but if I type google.com it flicks to google.co.uk (must be due to my IP) but the problem does not occur which is odd.

Is it just me having this issue? It is quite annoying because if for example you have typed something like “Major Geeks Forum” but you paused for 1 second after the “J”, you look up to see you have only typed “Maj” in the search box and “Majorca” is offered as the first suggestion so you have to use the mouse to click back in the box and then type “or Geeks Forum”.

I assume there is some coding thing that needs sorting here and there is nothing I can do but work around the issue by always using the mouse to click in the search box.

Any ideas? Is it just me?

    Cheers

I have a mini workaround but have not solved it so could someone do the test below for me.

Workaround: I changed my home page to google.com and as I said in my earlier post it actually opens google.co.uk but then I do not have the time out problem. Simple but stange.

    The test:
Type google.co.uk in the URL box
    Press Enter
Start to type in the search box - pause for a second and see if it stops you entering any further text.

Don't use your mouse to put the cursor in the search box.

It doesn't happen here, same OS version, same browser. I can pause as long as I like and it waits.
