    my sisters pc had started to behave oddly, she was unable to connect to the internet
    it then transprided that internet explorer and firefox would both fail to start,
    along with the internet explorer crash window appearing every 30 secs or so, so i almost positive something
    isnt right - especially as no one is starting internet explorer, as soon as the pc is switched on
    an IE process starts, if i kill it, another one appears, this does appear to be linked with the crash window

    i have managed to remove sdra64.exe as by pure luck i saw it in windows task manager on startup

    nb: startup is also very slow

    along with any antivirus/adware software

    when i got her pc, i managed to run adaware/antivir/malwarebytes against the individual disks
    (right click against the disks in explorer), these all reported no errors found.
    i tried to follow the 'windows xp posting', but i havent managed to get all the neccessary logs

    i will upload the rrlogs.txt
    mglogs.zip

    combofix ran but then the pc just locked up.

    its almost as thought anything good i try to run or do, just causes the pc to lock up -
    ie what ever has infected the pc doesnt like me trying to clean it up

    I don't see combofix anywhere on your machine. I will have you download a fresh version and run it after we do the below:

    1. Download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    2. Also delete all files in the below bold folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    3. Go to this link and download a copy of combofix to your desktop. Double click it to run it.

    4. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix. and avenger.

    5. Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    IMPORTANT: You have combofix in the wrong location.
    It needs to be put directly on your desktop now before we continue on.

    1. Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:

    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    H8SRTd.sys
    Remote Packet Capture Protocol v.0

    File::
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\H8SRTiqpxfujdpk.sys
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\sysReserve.ini

    Folder::
    C:\Program Files\WinPcap

    DirLook::
    C:\1e80047cee3ea28abd213b5d76556d
    C:\970c256327156d650f4dfd7018fe4ff5
    C:\02e683bddc1898c99396a0
    C:\c6299bdb939776cba2231a0ad60662
    C:\0d5ed5774e3a1666e12ec27fe889

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{02478D38-C3F9-4efb-9B51-7695ECA05670}]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    2. Now run RootRepeal again and rescan with it (If you run into difficulties with RR then please let me know) Attach log if successful.

    3. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix.

    ran combofix - log uploaded
    ran rootrepeal - log uploaded
    ran mglogs/getlogs.bat - output uploaded

    the pc definately starts up quicker, i will wait for your response, before i run antivir/malwaarebytes/adaware/spywareblaster updates/scans

    Those logs look good to me.

    Just do this and then after wards I would like for you to update and scan with both MBAM and SAS, attaching logs from each into your next reply.

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O23 - Service: Remote Packet Capture Protocol v.0 (experimental) (rpcapd) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\WinPcap\rpcapd.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    ok,

    ran analyse.exe - couldnt find a log file

    ran mbam and sas - log files uploaded

    i also rebooted and then switched of system restore, then switched it back on and created a new clean restore point

    so im hoping that we are clean now

    You shouldn't really have done this until the steps for it were given in final instructions. Because any restore point is better than none of something were to go wrong :)

    Your logs are clean, all Malware Bytes found was a false positive. It was detecting the combofix quarantine.

    SAS didn't find anything dire either.

    I would like for you to now give RootRepeal another run and let's see what it comes up with.

    yes i jumped the gun i know.... :(

    the reason i cleared out the system restore points, was cos the adaware/antivirus runs picked up files that where in there, so i thought i should it

    anyway the computer looks much healthier now

    i have run rootrepeal, - log uploaded

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
