Hi, I usually connect to my ISP via the IE icon on my desktop, yesterday I tried to connect and could'nt, so I went into connections in internet options and found that my default dialer had been replaced by a porn site icon called hot kiss, I removed this and started a search to remove any similar items, which I deleted, I then ran adaware and a couple of other fix it style programs, I then tried unsuccessfully to gain access to the net, the offline window popped up saying that a connection could not be made as IE was not configured I trawled through various self help and windows support to find a solution but had not luck at all, I managed to connect to the net via dial up connection to my ISP and then click on the IE icon on my desktop, I looked through your site for a solution and came across a registry problem which I followed but I had no such item in the registry, I then downloaded Hijack this and spybot, I tried out hijack this but found that the list of items were over my head, I then tried spybot and followed the instructions and press fix after ticking all yellow and blue items listed, when I again tried to access IE the window opened, however the small window with IE is not configured and offline on it did not appear this time and no sign at all of a dial in box, my IE is version 6, my OS is XP pro, I also downloaded some sort of IE advanced browser not sure what this is but that does'nt work either, HELP!

When you look at the Internet Explorer Options from the Tools menu and under the Connections tab what do you see? Is there a default connection and is one of the two dial options selected rather than Never Dial a Connection?

    Re: Running processes

Hi Xflat, in task manager in the applications window I get MajorGeeks message board-reply to topic, running, in the processes window I have a whole host of items running one of which is iexplore.exe, there is also an explorer.exe, but no sign of any of the numbers that you asked me to look for, however prior to going online I tried to access IE and on the page I right clicked and went to properties, a window opened with a general tab and in it was written the following:
    res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/dnserror.htm#http://www.dogpile.com/

I dont know if this helps any, it seems that when I try to access the internet via the IE icon, that it keeps reverting to working offline, cant find anything in the internet options box.

    Re: IE probs continue

Hi Xflat, how are you, well I checked all of the boxes in spybot, as you suggested, when it searched, it was around 13,000 bad guys, I re-ran spybot and Highjack This a few times, I highlighted each item in highjack this to see what it was and was able to fix a lot of them, however when it says fix it, does it really delete the items, I guess thats the way the program actually fixes any problems? anyway I still have the problem with IE, in that when I click on the icon the dial up window does not appear, just the offline window, is this still part of the original problem or can this be fixed, the only way I am getting onto the net at the moment is via start/connect to/ then my ISP which then brings up a window with the name of my ISP at the top and a dial button on it near the bottom, but thats not a problem in itself, I'm just rambling, as for a site for spy logs I tried accessing that via one of your colleagues web links but it would not access the site, if there is a hacker in my computer can I delete anything in the registry, will anything have been left in there, that I can get rid of?

I have been told that all it does is remove these items, not delete them. You can restore any, or, all of them from HijackThis if something doesn't work after it been 'fixed'.

A page I found at Google about explorer.exe http://cexx.org/dlder.htm, it may, or may not be a problem. You'd need to check for the dlder.exe file (the page the link takes you to mentions that file too).

The best thing to do would be run a scan, then copy and paste the results here, there are people here who will tell you exactly what to fix. I'm not saying you don't know enough, but it always helps to have another pair of eyes check too. Good luck :)

    Re; IE problems seem solved

Hi Kaputnick, thankyou, IE seems to be working now, after following Xflats instructions it looks as if I have managed to fix it, however I will have to keep an eye on it, anyway a big thankyou to all, and yes I dont know enough, still learning, wish I had the experience that you guys have, but as long as people like me have friendly people like yourselves around we can feel safe in the knowledge that help is there when you need it most, a big thumbs up to Major Geeks.

    Re: Adaware running

Hi Xflat, yes I always run adaware and I am now running spybot in the back ground and use highjack this when I finish on the net, starting to get the hang of it, everything seems to be working fine, no networking problems, so thanks once again.
