Internet explorer crashing on start up

You may be right about that.

Seems to me that for the longest time following the release of Vista and then Windows 7, the subject of USB boots and Windows XP was coming up around the internet. If I recall correctly, it was the old "I can do it at work, why not at home?" thing. Anyway, I think the inability to boot to USB is an issue unique to XP era PCs. Eventually, as XP was still being requested on some machines there were some that were enabled for USB boots that came with XP, but I guess that was well into the multi-core era of processors...

Never heard of unplugging the main drive to get this to work, but maybe it will work...always understood no USB boot as the result of no support for it in BIOS...

 

It's not the main drive he's disconnecting. It's the external USB drive. I've had this happen to me (ntldr is missing) and disconnecting the USB hard drive solved it. In Vista/Win 8.1 I would get "MBR error 1 or 3" until I disconnected the USB hard drive.

He's pressed F9 on his computer and been given the option to boot to the MiniTool flash drive but, when his notebook goes to boot, it's looking for the boot information on the external HDD instead of the flash drive. So, I'm pretty sure he's got to disconnect the external HDD and have the flash drive plugged in instead to boot from it.
