alright so basicly wanted to uninstall wmp10 ... and was told to go to add/remove programs and then go to windows components. I did this and selected only windows media player.. pressed next .. and basicly all it did was remove Internet explorer from my computer................. nothing else that i can noticed.

So basicly can't find internet explorer (im using firefox right now) , i ran the installer fro IE 8 .. said it installed fine , restarted the comp and still no icon on desktop or internet explorer to be seen.

    Whats the problem??

P.s dont tell me just to use firefox as i dont like it very much compared to IE8.

You have probably already looked, but:

Have you gone into your Programs folder to see if there is an "Internet Explorer" folder there (C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer)? If so, open it and right-click the iexplore icon, and send a shortcut to the desktop using the "Send to" option in the menu that pops up.

    Has to be there someplace.
Windows will not run without Internet Explorer being installed in one version or another. You may have knocked out IE8, but IE6 is probably lurking around.

    What about just:

    Start> Run> iexplore.exe

to see if he can call it up?

(could also get correct/appropriate version info, if he is able to call it up)

Sorry if I'm out of my league here...

In the Start Menu do you have Windows or Microsoft Update as both run off IE, try that.

FF is 10 times better and IE is extremely vulnerable and a great way to get redirected, phished, etc etc etc.

i did the same thing in XP Home. IE doesn't get deleted, it only gets hidden and appeared to take the games & OE with it. you CAN'T uninstall any of that, you can only make it disappear so you don't "see" it. go back into Add/Remove Windows components and it will reverse. only other issue i had was the "iexplore" executable got "hidden" and i had to create a shortcut (right click on "iexplore" and choose Create Shortcut) in the IE folder under Programs. you have to unhide files and folders (i also have show restricted OS files unhidden); open any folder, click on Tools > Folder Options > View tab to change the "hidden" stuff.

i renamed the shortcut to "Internet Explorer" then manually added (copy/paste) it to C: > Documents and Settings > All Users > Start Menu

had to do the same with OE (called "msimn"), but the games came back fine. could probably boot into SafeMode and do a more permanent fix, but my tweak works just fine.

you can't uninstall IE because you can't get any Windows updates without it. haven't been able to get the "User Agent Switcher" addon to work in Firefox and MS will NOT let you use Firefox, or any other browser except IE, to get updates.
