Internet Explorer just wont open!

hi guys,
i really hope someone can help me with my problem. My machine has Windows2000 and was heavily infected with spyware- all sorts.
Anyway i used Antispyware and managed to clean it. After restarting my machine I got the following error- "symantec email proxy cannot scan your email messages because your network is not properly configured" I get the same error everytime i log on to the machine

Now my internet explorer wont open. My proxy settings are all fine (when i ping i get replies),but when i open any website i get the "Cannot find server" message.

im stumped please help me out guys.

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

- Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:
