Internet explorer keeps shutting down

Hi, Surfing the internet, I get a message saying"Internet explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close" I click to see what error report says and I always get this:AppName:iexplore.exe
Appver:6.0.2900.2180n offset:0003426d:ntdll.dll mod name
modver:5.1.2600.2180
I have no idea what this means. I have cleaned out old files, scanned for spyware etc,etc. still problem persists. I do have comcast highspeed internet service. I contacted them and they tell me to contact microsoft. I am sure somebody around this forum knows what's goin on with this. I appreciate any help. I am using windows xp home version. Thanks

 

try updating to ie7
it should overwrite any corrupt files

 

Hi, That is where my problem started. I installed new version and did'nt like it so I uninstalled and I have had this probem as I have described above. Thanks, so anybody have any other solution? Thanks

 

My friend update to IE7 and it would just lockup when it was opened. Restored back before the upgrade to 6 and everything was fine. Still haven't gotten that resolved.

 

understandable that you didnt like it, neither did I at first
once you reset - view - toolbars - menu bar.
the interface is not that different to IE6
