    Dear MajorGeeks pros -

My laptop is working fine in every way... except I cannot connect to the Internet via any type of browser. I have tried Internet Explorer, MSN Explorer, and Firefox browsers with no luck.

The first symptom of this problem happened earlier in the week when Norton Internet Security 2005 detected the Vundo virus but could not delete or quarantine it. Additional scans from Norton & Webroot's Spy Sweeper did not solve the problem.

Upon one reboot, after a scan, Norton suddenly was acting as though it had not been registered and was asking to re-register. This is when I discovered that I couldn't get to the Internet via browser.

I contacted support service for my DSL provider. The rep guided me through the process of pinging to several major websites. I received appropriate responses from each of them. Apparently, my computer is connecting to Internet, but my browser doesn't function.

I have read the thread "READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support", and I have followed the instructions. I could NOT run "5: Online Virus And Trojan Scanning", because the computer cannot connect to the Internet via browser. I have run all recommended scans on this thread. It did remove some files, but has not changed my problem.

I have attached my Hijack This report to this document. Any help would be welcomed.

    Thanks,

    Brett Andrew

    Download LSP-Fix

After download is complete, Run LSP-Fix

Check the Box labeled "I know what I'm doing" and then click on the nmnsp.dll file (in the “Keep” section) to select it.

Then, Select the >> button to move nmnsp.dll into the Remove section.

Now, click the Finish Button. When the Repair Summary box appears, click OK.

(Note: If the file nmnsp.dll is already in the remove section, then just click FINISH.)

Now run HijackThis and fix the following:
Post a fresh HijackThis log when finished with the above.

    Thanks for your assistance.

    I downloaded and ran LSP-fix. I removed file nmnsp.dll.

However, when I ran HijackThis, I did NOT see the files you mentioned that need to be fixed:

O10 - Unknown file in Winsock LSP: c:\windows\system32\nmnsp.dll
O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'cespy.dll' missing

These items did NOT appear in the list. I have attached an updated HijackThis log.

    Thanks,

    Brett Andrew

Wait a second! You are my hero!

Although I didn't get the items in my HijackThis report that you mentioned, Internet Explorer is now working.

    Thanks so much!
