Internet Gateway?

I just installed a fresh copy of XP but cannot access the internet. This computer shows two connections, LAN and Internet gateway. The other only shows LAN. What could be wrong? I set up all the connections in IE correctly and even downloaded panda updates and windows updated automatically, but I cannot access anything on IE. HEEEEELP!

 

What happens when ye run Internet Explorer?

Also, is this XP gold (no service pack), xp sp1, or sp2?

 

sp2...i get a page cannot be displayed window. I've tried everything. Is there something i need to install for my router? Like I said this one is fine but other one is being impossible. I think the internet died permanantly on it because it no longer installes updates, either. If it helps any it uses some kind of registration thing from mediacom that doesn't seem to work either.

 

Ok i just looked and Windows Firwall/Internet Connection Sharing Service is not running and I tried to start it and got an error saying that it couldnt be started because it was marked for deletion. strange! Anyway, I'm still working on getting THAT working now.

 

Unless you have another computer that is going to access the internet via this machine, you do not need that sharing service running. Check your device manager and make sure that you are not missing drivers for you nic. You can also go Start- Run- cmd and type in ping localhost and see what happens.
