Internet going in and out.

I'm a bit confused as to what's going on with my internet. It's not my actual connection, as I can stay on AIM just fine. My internet works for about ten minutes after I turn my computer on, then my browser(s) just stop working completely and I can only access one website (a board I frequent, or rather the invisionfree style boards, as two boards load). It's been doing this for about a week since I moved home from school. I'm usually pretty good with this stuff and I've done just about everything I could think of to fix it.

I've run Spybot, Ad-Aware, HiJackThis; I've defragmented my computer (it needed it anyway), and cleared off ten gigs of hdd space. I've also checked my programs to see if anything had installed without my knowledge and cleared both my Firefox and IE's temp files and cookies, etc. My internet dies for extended periods of time then suddenly decides to work again for no reason.

I do not have any form of anti-virus software (as far as Norton or McAfee go), but I do have a few anti-spyware programs that I run often.

I'm posting my HiJackThis log as an attachment with this thread incase I've missed something. I'm a little wary of "C:\WINDOWS\vVX3000.exe", but it's been there a while and I couldn't really figure out what it was. And should I really have that many copies of svchost running? Is that file safe for XP? I remember it having issues with ME or something. Maybe. Or maybe I'm just retarded.

    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

This may or may not be a malware issue. I tend to doubt it is malware but the below procedure is the only way to really know. Make sure you use the below procedure in the below link!

NOTE: You must get an antivirus and a real bidirectional firewall installed! Also you need an antispyware program with realtime protect.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

Read & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

After you complete the instructions in the above link, also run the below and attach the log from GMER:

    Running GMER to detect rootkits

Alrighty, I have run all the programs I believe and am attaching the logs now.

Do you have a suggestion for an anti-virus/firewall? I do use Windows Firewall. I don't have Norton or McAfee because I have had horrible past experiences with both programs, and all I've ever, ever experienced with them was irritation and them messing things up more than they were to begin with. :/

Thanks for your help, I'm not really sure if my net is fully functional, but it seems to be working well for now.

Your logs are clean as I suspected but I will give you a few things to do to remove some unnecessary startups and some old software.

It does not provide adequate protection. I will give you a link further down with free firewalls and antivirus programs and many other steps to protect you. These free antivirus programs will not bog your system down like Norton and McAfee did.

Well that is good but nothing in your logs really showed anything that was fixed that would have changed anything.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RealTray] C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\RealPlay.exe SYSTEMBOOTHIDEPLAYER
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /backgroun
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
