internet is not working

Hi

my laptop was working properly with microsoft vista but i was fed up with vista due to its slow speed so i reinstalled win XP on my laptop. since then my internet connection is not working. My network card/ adapter is working fine but my laptop is not able to connect to the internet. please help me.

n yes when i repair my internet connection following message appears

Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action cannot be completed:
Failed to query TCP/IP settings of the connection. Cannot proceed.
For assistance, contact the person who manages your network.

Check your device manager to make sure you have no driver issues first, especialy if your os change involved a format of your hard drive, as some laptop manufactures have a hidden partition with vital files.

other things to try include...

Update to service pack 2 if your wireless is using a WPA key ( most times XP prior to SP2 doesn't like a WPA security key - just like Vista doesn't like the old WEP key)

if all is well- try
reseting the winsock catalog with ...(these require XPSP2)

START>RUN> cmd |ok| netsh winsock reset

and/or reseting the tcp/ip stack with ...

START>RUN> cmd |ok| netsh int ip reset log.txt

sometimes it is as simple as ....(any xp)

START>RUN> inetwiz |ok| -setup connection using LAN, next, tick first box only, next, no , finish.
