    Hi

I hope somebody can help trouble shoot my internet issue - I've spent 48 hrs and not got anywhere.

I'm running Windows 2000 with a Netgear Wg111v2 Wireless USB connecting to a Comtrend router.

When I ping my own IP I get 4 sent, 4 received
When I ping Google.com I get Unknown Host

I've flushed my DNS and released/renewed my IP.

I've removed my firwall and updated my wireless driver.

I'm running out of ideas and getting fed up of trying to solve this on the wife's netbook...

Any advice? I'm a good student....

    Hi and thanks Digitalocksmith.

I'm going to try and connect directly this evening and report back.

Previously I've assigned my own IP & DNS settings with info gathered from the router but currently the computer is set for automatic IP.

When the PC is set to automatic IP, when I run an IPconfig/all, I get an IP address but no DNS or Default Gateway.

When I assign my own IP information and run IPConfig/all, I get all the information come up on the screen but still not connection. This info is taken directly from the router via another one of my computers so should (?) be correct.

In regard to my wireless connection - is showing a strong signal from the wireless router and when I ping my own local IP (ie 192.168.1.180) I get 4 sent/4 back which I believe means I am connected to the router at the very least?

On this point, when I try to get into the router (192.168.1.1) it is not connecting/even getting to the password screen (from memory an "address not found type of message") which I guess is the fundamental issue.

Last night I went through uninstalling the TCP/IP, deleting the Binding, TCP/IP, WINSOCK and WINSOCK2 from the registry and reinstalling (I got this from a forum and believe me, I have no idea what it means) but still get nothing.

In short – I can’t get into the router and have no DNS or Default Gateway. I will try and connect directly to the router this evening and also check the DCHP settings.

Could it be as simple as I only think I'm connecting via the wirless connection? Everything looks good and I have a strong signal etc.

Also, would you/anybody know anything about control panel/admin/services and what for internet connectivity should be running/started in here?

    Any further advice really appreciated.

    Thanks again Digitalocksmith

I'll do that this evening and report back.

Should it still not work, what level of info would be helpful in a troubleshoot?

Shall I copy the IPConfig results for both wired and wireless into the forum including the ping results? My Hijack this report is very small - would this be of any use to anybody?

Let me know if there is anything and I'll copy it in - fingers crossed I'll get it sorted tognight.

    Cheers

    Chris
