it is not the browser (as i have seen in the other threads that have the same title as mine) instead, for the past couple days the internet has been shutting down after about 10 minutes (we know that its the rouder, browsing through the modem hard wired is okay) but trying to surf wirelessly through the router eventually shuts down after 10 minutes or less

we have a netgear router, we can't tell the model of it (maybe you do) if we need an upgrade on firmware

    1. Have you tried doing a hard reset on the Netgear router? Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds while powered on.

    2. Do you have any cordless phones in your home?

we have a cordless phone lying around but my sister is always sending text messages on her cell phone

just updated the firmware and the problem is still there

I'm assuming you mean that the cordlessphone does get used from time to time? If so can you check to see if its a 2.4GHz Cordless Phone as that is on the same frequency as the router and will cause your wireless to go in and out at random.

Also, if you are comfortable getting into your router settings, make sure that the wireless connection is not set for a time out.

OK, my bad, that particular router doesn't seem to have that option.... in the wireless settings.

The documentation, if you don't already have it, can be found here: Linkage

There is a note at the bottom of page 3-6 (aka p28 to Reader) noting:
That may or may not be the problem I was referring to... it could be more for the connection from the router to the net, but hey, anything's worth checking.

Also, make sure that your wireless is in good working order (latest drivers from the manufacturer and such). If you have friends with wifi, have them come over and try their notebooks on your network and see if they have the same problem, and vice-versa, try yours elsewhere (if yours is a notebook that is) and see if you have the same problem with other networks. If your problem persists elsewhere, probably your wifi is the issue. If not, and your buds are having the same issue on your network, then check the website for the latest firmware and how to upgrade your firmware.

I know, that's a lot, but hope it helps.

i know that it isn't the wlan adapter on all of the computers in the house, because all of the computers in the house are doing it and the internet didn't come back alive until i unplugged the router for a couple seconds then plugged it back in, waited for everything to start and the internet started working again but only for 10-30 minutes

i just updated it to the latest firmware (and this time i didn't unplug it to reset it i just let it reset on its own) and then it continued to stop again but we have more time to surf that way, its still stopping though

In that case, sounds like you may need a new router.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad new, but I thin it may have given up the ghost on you.
