internet not working?

my friends internet connection is not working 100% on his computer, internet explorer will not load any page, nor will AOL, and no other application will connect to the internet.. except kazaa lite, anyone have a suggestion as to why kazza lite connects and nothing else.. and how to fix?

 

Maybe he has a block and want let him go to anything?

 

no he doesn't have anything that i am aware of, the internet was working fine and then i was one the phone with him, and all of a sudden he was kicked off AIM and all... it's like it died, but kazaa lite works !? he's running windows 2k professional

TRY GOING TO:

START>>CONTROL pANEL>>INTERNET OPTIONS>>DELETE FILES>>DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT>>OK AND THEN TRY AGAIN.

What is his IP address?

What are the results of ipconfig /renew at a cmd prompt?

Can he ping anything by IP or FQDN?

What kind of net access?

 

virus scan has been done with up to date definitions via mcafee, and adaware's spyware scan didn't return any abnormal results (just the normal cookies)

it is cable internet access

i'll tell him to try the pinging and release / renewing tomorrow when i see him, or later tonight

KAZAA LITE PROBABLY WORKS SO THEY CAN SLAP A LAWSUIT ON HIM FOR SHARING>>>YUK YUK..JUST KIDDING!

sounds like a DNS issue then

 

but he's also behind a router and it works fine from every other computer... thus a software problem right?

 

I would try entering the DNS servers that the router has been assigned in his IP config.

 

if hes behind a router, does he have his IP address set manually or is is automatic? Im aware there is a bug in some versions of XP where it fails to update IP details (address, dns servers.. etc.)from certain types of routers for some reason, but if you type it all in manually it works fine!

yeah but he's running windows 2000 professional, but hey guys, don't sweat it, he just bought a comp on newegg and should get it in the mail tomorrow. yay! i get to put it together

ummm I dont think your really helping him, and id say your rather annoying everyone else....dark horizon....if all else fails....call his ISP, if they can't help then say get your ass down here and help me, or im cancaling, and your not gettin the modem from me or anything.
